Neve: Shining the light on candle sustainability

Home fragrances and candles are a growing industry. New Zealand’s Neve produces high-quality products with exquisite fragrances, but Tessa Lynes, the founder of Neve, is also rewriting rules for luxury candles and sustainable home fragrance.

Neve’s (pronounced nee-vei) stunning collection of New Zealand inspired scented candles and room sprays are designed, created and hand poured by Tessa and her candle-maker-in-chief mother Vicki, in the South Island.

Tessa and her mother, who started the business as a shared hobby, are now on a full-time mission to become New Zealand’s sustainable home fragrance brand.

Our hand-poured candles are made with 100% natural soya wax, FSC certified woodwicks and fragrance oils that are phthalate-free. This results in a cleaner, greener burn.

There’s also the clever option of candle refills. Neve introduced its popular candle-refill concept in New Zealand as part of an effort to reduce waste and maximize sustainability.

The candle jar can be used for more than just the original candle. You can refill the Neve jar by cleaning it with warm water. Neve offers a candle subscribtion for seasonal scents delivered monthly.

“I have been a heavy candle user for many years, and I used to be bothered by the waste of jars after using a candle. Tessa says, “It didn’t make sense to me why we couldn’t send them back to be refilled in a circular manner. That’s when I came up with the idea for a refill.”

Once you do it, you will never go back to the old way of doing things.

Tessa has created an incredibly luscious collection of fragrances (Kowhai Blossom and Lime, Pink Peony with Prosecco, Whiskey & Wood Smoke to name a few), but she is also driven by the desire to operate the company in a way that is environmentally friendly.

Neve’s sustainable home fragrance journey is not just about candle refills. The company has big plans for the future, and will introduce innovative refillable products, such as room sprays, in early 2023.

Neve is a luxury brand that’s affordable, has a purpose, and has integrity.

Tessa also believes in giving back and Neve was founded with a mission. A small percentage of every sale is donated towards a charity that is close to both their hearts. Trees that Count, a charity that plant native trees in New Zealand, receives $1 from each order.

The word Neve is used to describe partially compacted, granular snow at the top of a mountain glacier. The brand name is a perfect fit for the uniqueness of the brand, especially since it was created in the South, inspired by Te Wapounamu’s Southern Alps.

Tessa created the three scents to create seasonal Christmas fragrances that were not based on the typical northern hemisphere winter mood and traditions. She wanted to capture the true essence of a Kiwi Christmas. Mission accomplished.

Online and in selected retailers, limited edition Christmas gift sets and fragrances (starting at $28) are now available.
